The San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival 2026 brings four days of jazz, Latin jazz, Afro-Latin music and cross-border cultural programming to San Diego, Escondido and Tijuana from October 1–4, 2026. The opening night takes place at Quartyard in downtown San Diego, Friday’s program moves to Avenida Revolución in Tijuana, Saturday centers on the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, and the festival concludes with another major outdoor program in Tijuana.

Headliners

The three principal headliners for the 2026 Escondido program are Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band, Danilo Pérez and Mingus Dynasty.

Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band headline the Saturday evening program. Blade is internationally recognized as a jazz drummer, bandleader and composer, and The Fellowship Band has developed a distinctive sound drawing from jazz, gospel, folk and American roots traditions.

Danilo Pérez brings his celebrated piano-led approach to the festival. The Panamanian pianist and composer is particularly associated with contemporary jazz and Afro-Latin influences, making his appearance especially appropriate for a festival connecting musicians and audiences across the United States-Mexico border.

Mingus Dynasty celebrates the repertoire and legacy of Charles Mingus. The group provides a direct connection to the history of Tijuana Moods, Mingus’s influential recording associated with his experiences in Tijuana.

Set times

The 2026 set times allow visitors to build their own schedule around specific artists. Thursday begins at 5:30 PM, followed by performances at 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM. Friday starts at 5:00 PM and concludes at 9:00 PM.

Saturday provides the longest festival schedule, with the first outdoor performance beginning at 2:00 PM. The main indoor concerts begin at 3:30 PM, 6:45 PM and 8:15 PM. Visitors attending the Saturday headline program should allow enough time to collect tickets, find parking and reach their seats before each performance.

Free festival events

The Thursday opening at Quartyard is free with RSVP, with admission offered on a first-come basis. Friday and Sunday programs in Tijuana are also presented as free public events.

Saturday Festival Pass

The principal paid ticket is the Saturday Festival Pass for the indoor Concert Hall performances in Escondido. The published standard ticket range is $54–$90 including fees, corresponding to a face-value range of $45–$75.

The ticket provides access to the principal Saturday Concert Hall performances, including Danilo Pérez, Mingus Dynasty and Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band.

Ticket release phases

Tickets for the principal Saturday program were released through the festival’s official ticketing arrangements beginning May 30, 2026.

The paid Saturday program has limited Concert Hall seating, so visitors interested in the headline performances should check availability before traveling. The free outdoor programs do not operate in the same way as reserved Concert Hall seating.

The Thursday San Diego opening requires an RSVP despite being free. Visitors should register ahead of time and arrive early because admission is first-come and standing-room only.

VIP/Village options

The 2026 festival does not advertise a traditional camping village or large VIP village. Instead, its premium experience is centered on the Friends of the Festival Premium Ticket Add-On at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

The premium add-on costs $125 in addition to an eligible Saturday festival ticket. It includes premium reserved parking, access to the Cantina on the Green, private restroom facilities and reserved seating during the dinner period.

Festival rules

Because SDTJ Jazz takes place at several different venues, individual rules can vary by location.

The Thursday Quartyard event is standing-room only and operates on a first-come basis. Visitors should have their RSVP information available and arrive early if they want to secure a convenient position near the performance area.

Saturday’s indoor Concert Hall performances use reserved seating. Visitors should follow the seating and venue instructions associated with their ticket and allow enough time to enter the building before the performance.

The outdoor programs operate in public festival environments, so visitors should follow instructions from event staff, respect surrounding businesses and public spaces, and avoid obstructing pedestrian routes.

Quartyard is located in downtown San Diego at 1301 Market Street. Visitors can reach the venue using local public transportation, rideshare services, taxis or private vehicles. Its downtown location makes it convenient for visitors staying around East Village, Gaslamp Quarter and central San Diego.

The California Center for the Arts, Escondido is located at 340 North Escondido Boulevard. Drivers can reach the venue from Interstate 15 using local Escondido roads. The center provides free parking in its main parking area around Escondido Boulevard and Woodward Avenue.

Visitors using public transportation can travel to the Escondido Transit Center using the SPRINTER light rail or local Breeze bus services. The transit center is approximately half a mile from the arts center.

Visitors traveling from San Diego to Tijuana should allow additional time for the international border crossing. Those attending evening performances should plan their return journey before the final set ends.

Public transport after the festival

Previous year’s highlights

The 2025 San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival was the second annual edition and continued the festival’s cross-border approach with performances in San Diego, Escondido and Tijuana.

One of the major highlights was Arturo O’Farrill and his Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble, whose appearance connected the festival to the broader traditions of Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz. The program also featured Lucía, Gabrielle Cavassa, James Moody @ 100 and other regional performers.

The 2025 edition also recognized the centenary of James Moody, the celebrated saxophonist, flutist and NEA Jazz Master who had a strong connection with San Diego during the later part of his career.

According to the festival’s reported attendance figures, more than 4,500 people participated across the San Diego and Tijuana programs in 2025. The strong turnout helped establish the festival as a growing binational cultural event and set the stage for the expanded four-day 2026 edition.
